Love

What is love?

Everyone has a different definition of the word and associate it with people, places or things.

The Oxford Dictionary defines love in many different ways, from the most well known definitions of affection and romance, to a score of zero in tennis.

Poems, books and songs have all been written about love over hundreds of years.

"Love is like the wind, you can't see it, but you can feel it" - Nicholas Sparks

"Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others, and the delight in the recognition" - Alexander Smith

I always thought I knew what love was and truly felt that I had experienced the strongest that this emotion had to offer me.

I genuinely believed this - that was until 14:23 on the 1st of April 2015 when my daughter was born. It is true what everyone says in that you will never experience love like it.

From the moment I found out that I was expecting, I knew that I would love my child - of course, it's a given. But the intensity of this love was unexpected and certainly not one that could be prepared in advance for. I kept getting the feeling in the pit of my stomach and felt as though I wanted to cry - not with sadness, but will joy that I had created such a precious gift.

There are, of course, many different types of love and I love a lot of things; I love my fiancé, my cat, walks on the beach, sunsets, a good TV series and picking the skin off my partners feet (don't judge lol!) But I will say that the love for my child knocks them all out of the water.

I never ever thought I would be selfless enough to risk anything for someone else, but I can put my hand on my heart and swear that I would give my life away for my daughter.
