10 Solid Reasons to Choose a Walking Holiday

If you enjoy walking, you know exactly how satisfying it is when you complete a walking challenge. The ability to move from one place to the other is not afforded to everyone, but if you can step up your hobby and take it to another level, wouldn't you want to?

Walking isn't just something you do to get from A to B. For some people, it's an endurance sport and it takes a lot of time and care to plan it properly. Think about it: would anyone do the Lands End to John O'Groats trek without knowing that it's going to take a lot out of them? This is days of walking, bed and breakfast stays and hours of being on the road - one foot in front of the other. And it's EXHILARATING! It's for treks like this that you should consider a walking holiday. So, with that in mind, we've got some excellent reasons you should choose a walking holiday for your next break.

  1. Everyone can do it. Well, if you are mobile, you can walk. Even those in wheelchairs or scooters can follow most walking trails alongside walking friends and families. Whether you start with short treks and build up, you can all join in for the whole family.
  2. You'll get fitter. Sure, you may be on holiday, but that doesn't mean that you can't have a ton of fun getting fit while you're out there. Walking holidays give you a chance to eat, drink, meet new people and enjoy different hotels!
  3. Do it for charity. If you want to walk a range of trails, raise some money and get sponsored to walk enough to help others. You'll love the meaning behind the walk.
  4. Take friends. There is something so therapeutic about walking and talking with your best friends. Bringing food to stop for a picnic when you need to will give you a chance to bond, chat, get into the depth of your friendship and enjoy time together.
  5. Any time of year is good. A walk or a proper trail can be walked at any time of year no matter the weather. You can stay in the UK or you can go abroad: there are always walks to enjoy wherever you are in the country.
  6. Booking early gets you deals. There is money off to be had in hotels and at restaurants across the country. When you take advantage of deals, you have a much better time of it while away.
  7. You can take your own pace. Are you a meandering walker or a sprinter? Either way, when you're on foot you can walk where you want to walk for how long you want to walk for!
  8. Walking enables you to see more of the areas you plan to enjoy. Drive to the start of a trail and do a round trip so that you end up where you need to be. You can see more of a town or area when you go on foot!
  9. Tick off the trails you want to walk - all of them! There are plenty to go on and you can take a couple of days to do it. There is more than enough time to get where you want to go.
  10. Take time out and do something to blow away the cobwebs. You will love the chance to relax - even when walking.
