Guest Post - Making a Baby

This week I have my lovely friend Hayley from Winging it With Two Boys talk about her experiences when trying to conceive. All of Hayley's links can be found at the end of this post.
I spent most of my early 20’s doing everything in my power to not get pregnant, so when I came to try and start a family with my first husband I expected it to happen quite quickly.

When it didn’t happen within the first few months I bought over the counter fertility tests to pee on to optimise our chances of conceiving.

Months turned to years and still no baby. We went to a fertility clinic, had tests etc etc.

I just felt this enormous pressure as everyone knew we were trying to have a baby, friends around us were having babies, and we still weren’t pregnant.

My marriage with my first husband broke down, and one day I left.  It wasn’t just the fact that we’d not been able to have a baby that made me leave, there were other reasons too.

So when I came to trying for a baby again with my second husband, I was terrified.

After a few months of trying I wasn’t pregnant.

I bought a digital Clearblue ovulation test online after reading rave reviews about the product online.

After a few months of using it I still wasn’t pregnant.

By this point I’d began to give up, and we started to look into adoption, gathered the information, went to an informal meeting, completed the paperwork and had got through to the interview stage.

It’s true what people say, that when you aren’t trying to get pregnant it happens, and that’s exactly what happened with us.

We were having a manic December 2012, I had lots on with work, we were busy socially (out most weekends) and a mid afternoon ‘quickie’ was how our eldest was conceived.

We didn’t expect to fall pregnant with my youngest so quickly hence why there’s only a thirteen month age gap between them!

We did start to try for a third child, but unfortunately we discovered that I had a prolapsed uterus and I had to have a hysterectomy in September 2015.

I am so thankful to have my two boys, and my heart goes out to all the couples who are there trying for a baby and for whatever reason it’s just not happened.

I hope that one day we will be able to revisit looking into adoption or fostering so that we can extend our home and hearts to another child.

Thank you so much for sharing Hayley! Hayley blogs over at Winging it With Two Boys and can be found on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
